Dr Richard Gipps

Lecturer in Psychology

Dr Richard Gipps, Philosopher and Clinical Psychologist, was appointed Research Fellow at Blackfriars in 2022. He has a BA/MA in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of Oxford; a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Warwick; and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Canterbury Christ Church University. Richard works as a psychotherapist in private practice, a tutor in philosophy for Stanford University in Oxford, and a lecturer in psychology for Blackfriars Studium. He also organises the Oxford Wittgenstein Reading Group.

Richard’s research interests include philosophical issues in psychiatry, psychology and psychotherapy. Among his publications are the monograph On Madness: Understanding the Psychotic Mind (Bloomsbury 2022) and the co-edited volumes The Oxford Handbook of Philosophy and Psychoanalysis (Oxford University Press 2019) and The Oxford Handbook of Philosophy and Psychiatry (Oxford University Press 2013 ).
