Welcoming our new students to the Studium

We are pleased to welcome seven new students this year.

The Studium at Blackfriars currently has twenty students studying for the priesthood: 8 Dominicans, 4 Franciscans (Capuchin and Conventual), 3 Benedictines (Douai, Ealing, Farnborough), 3 Carmelites (OCD and O.Carm), 1 Oratorian (Cardiff), and 1 Melkite.

Students in the Studium study for the pontifical STB, a bachelor’s level qualification requiring studies in philosophy and theology. The Studium uses the one-to-one or (occasionally) two-to-one tutorial method in addition to lectures and classes. This allows teachers to cater for a very wide spectrum of academic abilities and encourages students to develop critical skills that we believe to be crucial both for priestly service, and for other ministries in the Church in these times. We also welcome religious sisters to study for this pontifical qualification.

Thanks to generous funding, our students are now taught by a mixture of Dominican lectors and lay lecturers, ensuring that they receive a high-quality intellectual formation.
