November Requiem Masses

1st November 2021

November – Month of the Holy Souls

Each November, the Church asks us to pray for the dead, not just those we have know, but all of the departed, and particularly those who have nobody to pray for them. This is especially poignant for us this year, in the midst of the pandemic.

For the past few years, we have asked members of our congregation to hand in names of their departed loved ones to be remembered at Mass, along with a small stipend for the Masses said throughout November. This has become more difficult this year because of the various restrictions imposed on us. However, you can submit names to an online form, and Mass stipends can be paid using our online giving form, or on the card payment machine in the priory church.

Plenary Indulgence in the month of November

Usually a plenary indulgence is offered each November, under the usual conditions, for those who visit a cemetery to pray for the repose of the souls of the faithful departed between 1 and 8 November. This year the apostolic penitentiary has extended this to the whole month of November, and it is even possible for those who “mentally” visit a cemetery by devoutly praying for the faithful departed. You can find out more about this beautiful opportunity on the Vatican News website.
