SUMMARY:Aquinas Group
DESCRIPTION:The Blackfriars Aquinas Group is a reading group for young adults (18-35) to enrich their spiritual and intellectual lives by studying the writings of St Thomas Aquinas. This term we will look at the topic of Christology – the study of Jesus Christ\, the incarnate Word\, who is true God and true man. \nThe foundational and perhaps most outrageous claim of Christianity is that God chose to take on human flesh\, born from the womb of a virgin in a stable at Bethlehem. How can God\, the creator of all that is\, become a created human being? Was Jesus really God? Or\, we might ask\, was Jesus really human? And how does the Incarnation save us? Join us this term as we explore these questions with the help of Aquinas’ Summa Theologiae. We will begin with a couple of introductory sessions\, looking at the Christology of the New Testament and the patristics\, before turning to St Thomas. \nEach session will begin with a talk\, followed by time for questions and discussion. No prior knowledge or familiarity with St Thomas is expected.

SUMMARY:Thomistic Institute - Fr Gregory Pine OP
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 30th April\, the Oxford Thomistic Institute will host Fr Gregory Pine OP to speak on: He Lived Our Life: The Mysteries of Christ in the Story of Salvation. The lecture will begin at 7.30pm in the aula\, and will be followed by refreshments. All are welcome. \nAbstract: St. Thomas Aquinas insists that all of the deeds and sufferings of Christ save. With our tendency to focus on the passion\, death\, and resurrection (and\, justly so!)\, it’s not always easy to see what Christ’s life\, in its integrity\, offers to mankind. In this lecture\, Fr. Gregory Pine will exposit how the mysteries of the life of Christ furnish the saving shape of divinized life.
